Under one roof

It signifies nothing, of course, in legal or constitutional terms, but the news that the Office of the Northern Ireland Executive in Brussels has moved into the same building as the Irish Embassy has a certain symbolic value.

A message from the OFMDFM confirms that:

"We would like to inform that the Office of the Northern Ireland Executive has moved to new premises.

Our new contact details are:

Office of the Northern Ireland Executive
180 Chaussée d'Etterbeek
1040 Brussels
Belgium"
While the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin confirms that its Brussels Embassy is located at:
Embassy of Ireland
Chaussee d'Etterbeek / Etterbeekse Steenweg 180
(5th Floor)
Bruxelles 1040 Brussel

Interesting choice, especially since the British embassy is only a stone's throw away.

Did The Republic deliberately locate it's office near The UK embassy? Could this be symbolic in some manner?

Anonymous,

What a silly comment. The Republic has an Embassy, not an 'office'. And it is not particularly close to the UK embassy, certainly not in terms of a fairly small city like Brussels.

But to have the two Irish representations in the same building, now that's interesting. Symbiosis, cooperation, ... integration?

If this dolt had ever been in a large city, he would know that embassies of several countries are often located in the same part of a town.

For example

Whoops, that linked to a different tab I had open. This is the relevant one for Brussels.
